"Thin Ice" Original Painting

I was born and raised in the Arctic, very close to the polar circle. We lived right next to the river, which is about 2km wide and splits the city into two parts. In summer you can take a boat. And in winter you can walk on ice.

When ice gets thick enough, about 40cm, a special road is installed on it. It's called "The Road of Life", because it connects isolated villages to the city center. Some people take it every day.

In the middle of this road, ships come through and ice is broken several times a day. Then wooden blocks are put on top for the people to cross. Walking on them is the closest you can get to walking on water, pretty terrifying :).

As a kid I was always fascinated when "The Road of Life" was ready. That's how I knew, winter has come.
